This Lil Piglet

#WinWithChicken Sweepstakes and Chicken Farmers Ambassador

I’m always on the look out to cook healthy meals for my family and often share those recipes with you, my readers.  Chicken is a staple in many of my recipes because it is an excellent source of protein, Vitamin D, calcium and other much needed nutrients; not many other ingredients can offer the amount of nutrition with just one ingredient.  I love both white and dark chicken meat but my preference is dark, mainly because I find it more flavourful.  Many think dark meat is higher in fat and is generally the lower quality part of the chicken but in all actuality, dark meat is higher in nutrients than white.  My children love a good flavourful piece of chicken that they can sink their teeth into, from sandwiches, taco’s and salads, chicken always has a place in our meal time.  Instilling healthy eating habits in my children is of great importance to me; healthy eating habits now will encourage healthy lifestyles into adulthood and decrease their chances of health problems.

Chicken Farmers of Canada has asked me to represent them as a Chicken Farmers Ambassador; naturally with a focus on healthy eating and sustainable living, chicken is a great fit for me and the feel of this blog.  If you have a family of chicken lovers like me or are a solo chicken lover, you’ll be excited to hear that we are promoting the #WinWithChicken contest this month where you can personally get involved rallying your local MP’s for a challenge to win $10,000 to your local food bank.

“Hunger affects everyone – and over 40% of the people who use food banks in Canada are children.

Did you know May 7-11th is Hunger Awareness Week? On the evening of May 9th MPs are fasting for the day, and will be breaking fast on May 10th.”

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

Rally your local MP’s to submit their favourite grilled or barbecued chicken sandwich recipe for a chance to win $10,000 donation to your local Food Bank.  You know they could use it!

Head over to find your MP on Twitter, or contact them through their email address, and ask that they submit their recipe by Thursday May 31st, 2012 for their chance to reach out to their communities and win a donation to the food bank in their riding.  This is your chance to get your MP’s attention while helping to support Food Banks Canada.

Along with the donations, the winning recipe will be served to over 10,000 people at Major’s Hill Park at the 20th annual Great Canadian Chicken BBQ on July 1st, 2012, such a great honor for the winning MP.
